Dr Fay, who leads our medical team is a former Vancouver area Medical Advisor on Addiction services to the Provincial Government. He has over 30 years’ experience working in the field of Addiction Medicine including detox, outpatient clinics and dealing with co-occurring disorders (mental health and addiction) for Greater Vancouver Mental Health Services.
He is exam certified with the American Society of Addiction Medicine since 1988, and is board certified with ABAM (Diplomate of the American Board of Addiction Medicine) since its inception.
He was a founding Physician of Vancouver detox in 1982 and with colleagues helped develop innovative detox protocols for alcohol and opiate addiction.
He was also a co-founder and long term member of the Advisory Committee on Opioid Dependency at the BC College of Physicians and Surgeons. This committee pioneered the education and monitoring of physicians
In the field of addiction issues and OST (opiate substitute treatment) in Canada and several members were awarded the prestigious Dole Nylander award for excellence by the American Society of Addiction Medicine.
Dr Fay was recognised as a distinguished fellow of the American Society DFSAM in 2010 for exceptional services including advocacy and teaching in the field of addictions. He joins a group of approximately 300 Fellows worldwide to whom ASAM and its members look to for guidance and leadership.
He has been an auditor for the BC College of Physicians on prescribing issues, a board member at Pacifica Treatment center, Pacific Area advisor on addictions to Corrections Canada and a mentor to Physicians in recovery.
In 2007/2008 He pioneered the BC introduction and physician training in the use of Suboxone (buprenorphine) as an adjunct to opiate dependency treatment and its use for opiate detox.
Dr Fay is a highly respected physician working with the addicted population in British Columbia.
