Dr. Kerkerian, or “Dr. K” is an internist, addiction medicine provider and infectious diseases specialist. She has an appointment in the Department of Social Medicine as a clinical associate professor with the University of British Columbia, and works as an addiction medicine consultant at St-Paul’s hospital.
She is a graduate of the addiction medicine fellowship with the BC Centre on Substance Use, as well as a graduate of the University of Calgary Infectious Diseases residency program in Calgary, Alberta, and of the University of British Columbia Internal Medicine Residency program in Vancouver, BC.
She is passionate about patient advocacy for vulnerable populations, particularly in the context of addictions. Throughout her educational journey, she has furthered her skills in supporting patients with active substance use disorders and concurrent acute or chronic infections. Her goal is to continue to work at the intersection of these specialties, as well as taking an active role in teaching students at all levels of clinical academic medicine to reflect on social determinants of health, supporting them to become strong advocates for historically marginalized patient populations.
