Overnight Licensed Practical Nurse

The overnight licensed practical nursing staff are responsible for the safety and well being of the clients through providing medical care during the overnight hours.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • LPN diploma with at least 1 year of experience
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Detail/Task oriented to ensure that all procedures are followed
  • Exceptionally reliable
  • Care and compassion for clients in early stages of drug and alcohol recovery, whose behaviour may exhibit as suicidal ideation, emotional dysregulation, anxiety, paranoia, depression or in physical limitations
  • Basic computer skills (Windows, Microsoft Office)
  • Ability to pass a criminal records check
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training

ADDITIONAL SKILLS (beneficial)

  • Practical knowledge of a alcohol/drug based 12 step program
  • Valid Class 4 unrestricted license

DUTIES

  • Provide overnight medical care for clients, some who may be in the early stages of drug and alcohol detoxification
  • Dispense medication to clients
  • Charting on each client
  • Care for clients experiencing mental distress as part of a medical and support staff team
  • Build relationships with clients to encourage trust, while listening to and interpreting their needs and concerns, discuss the best way to plan and deliver their care as part of the medical and support staff team
  • Ensure the correct administration of medication, including injections, and monitor the results of treatment
  • Respond to distressed clients in a non-threatening manner and attempt to understand the source of distress
  • Apply ‘de-escalation’ techniques to help people manage their emotions and behaviour
  • Ensure that the legal requirements appropriate to a particular setting or group of clients are observed
  • Assess capacity and obtain informed consent and, where clients lack capacity to consent, have the ability to work within a legal and ethical framework
  • Promote a ‘recovery’ based approach to care
  • Medication inventory and reporting

WAGES

  • Wage: Remuneration based on experience

HOURS OF WORK

  • Two to three 12 (9pm to 9am) hour or 14 hour (7pm to 9am) shifts dependent on the day of work within compressed work week. These shifts can include statutory holidays and weekends.
